Using headset and mic adapter on Lenovo ThinkPad x220

I am using a Lenovo ThinkPad x220 and want to record my external mic and also want to hear using the headphones on this laptop. This connection seems to be a combo type so I will need some kind of adapter or something. I was able to find one PC Headset to 35mm Phone but I dont know if this cable will work on my computer. Does anyone know where can I get this kind of adapter or if there is any other solution then please let me know about it. Thanks

I also bought similar cable to use with Skype and a headset. The cable works properly but I had to control the mic and audio volume manually within the messenger instead of the default Windows settings. I was also getting some kind of static while using the headphones. So I reinstalled the audio drivers and it was able to sort the problem just fine. Hope that it works for you as well.

I had also purchased a similar cable and I used the following steps to solve the settings. First of all open Smart audio settings and check at the speaker tab for an option called classic stream or multistream. Now here, the multistream was supposed to have the option to use both speakers and headphone simultaneously. But it messes the microphone when we are combining both. So after I changed that to classic and enabled all the cables, then it started to work properly.

I am using a Lenovo ThinkPad T420 laptop and am facing the same issue. I am using 2 headsets with built in mic and both are working properly in other laptops that has different mic and headphone jacks. I bought an adapter which combines the 2 jacks so they can fit the combo jack of this laptop but I was getting very poor quality of the sound which was not good.
