I did a little tour of solutions to change the power of my PowerMac G5 by myself, and I'm still a bit surprised: I find vendors who offer Power Supply for about $ 200. Apple reserves the exclusive right to sell its parts only to authorized centers? A 600W power supply for G5 is also not manufactured by Apple but by other providers, just like a hard drive or DVD burner. I must seem a little naive but I am very surprised by this situation. On the other hand, if my Mac is locked about 15 days for repair, I also quickly launch my command in the U.S. and to repair itself after receipt.

    Hello,
I had a problem similar to yours. The difference is that my PSU restarted after disconnecting the cable, rest and reconnection. I posted a topic on this forum about my adventure. Can you diagnose a need for cleaning of the PSU? I have searched on the net and there was a blog where someone has published a step by step disassembly-cleaning his G5 were filled with dust. For me cleaning was enough to restart the machine. It will take everything apart, including processors with their kerchiefs radiators.

In my opinion, if the change of power supply is needed, it's worth saving your Mac. Especially if you are happy and if properly equipped. On the other hand, much less heat Intel’s and if your room is very hot in summer, and if you have the money then change. Good luck. Personally, I have a PowerMac G4 700 GHz which I use again and take over the G5 when it warms. Have you checked the exchange program G5 PSU enough lately?

Re: Need power supply for Power Mac G5

Thank you for your suggestions. I actually tried to leave for my Mac for 24 hours, then attempts to boot, but without success: absolutely no sign of life. I also tested the stuff simple kind of test the electrical outlet, testing the power cable. What I cannot know everything, by cons is that the motherboard of the G5 is intact or not. As no current flows, cannot test anything above, I see absolutely no diode neither inside nor outside that lights up. And unfortunately no, the serial number of my G5 is not part of the list at Apple to change the diet. Mine has a little over 4 years, sad as it breaks quickly.
