There are some package provides the CD-ROM driver for the USB Portable CD-ROM Drive (P/N 33L5151) for DOS users. So I think you should use some drivers for the usb so that able to boot from the usb you can down load usb drivers which supports your systems from net.And the main thing is that you have to update the BIOS with it without updating BIOS drivers are useless.

I can suggest you to use bootable Linux cd to boot your system To see if your USB drive can be made to boot or not. There are Two small part are specially made to boot from a USB flash drive: Small Linux and Puppy Linux. Do a web search for these and read the websites. To get further info as many websites offer the most information I've seen.

I do not think that it will work with your system because may be your trying attempt to apply a BIOS update from a different system to yours , so I would suggest you to update your system with CD and don’t try to copy updates from any source it would be harmful to your system or corrupt your system.

You can use CD-ROM driver in this package, also you need to update the BIOS at the same time.If you want then there two main packages, either you can download Version 2.07 (or higher)" or the Version 2.07 (or higher)", and update the BIOS with it. If you installed a new version then it can support for ThinkPad X20 systems.boot feature from USB Portable CD-ROM Drives are:

    • ThinkPad X21 systems
    • ThinkPad X22 systems
    • ThinkPad s31 systems
    • ThinkPad X23 systems
    • ThinkPad X24 systems
    • ThinkPad X30, X31, X40
    • ThinkPad X32
    • ThinkPad X60, 60s

Re: How to boot IBM ThinkPad 600E using USB

I understood your problem I can will give you some simple steps you just have to go through out this steps,
    1. First you have to Make a DOS boot diskette.
    2. Then Copy the USB_CD.SYS file in to the DOS boot diskette.
    3. Then you can Copy the MSCDEX.EXE file from operating system directory in to the DOS boot diskette.
    4. Further you have to Add the statement to the config.sys file on the DOS boot diskette:
    DEVICE=USB_CD.SYS
    5. I think you should go with this statement in to the autoexec.bat which is available on the DOS boot diskette:
    MSCDEX.EXE /D:TEAC-CDI
    6. And at last you need to Boot to DOS using this DOS boot diskette to use USB Portable CD-ROM Drive.
