720p Blu-Ray vs 1080p bluray vs upscaled DVD?

I am having a 32'' Phillips LCD and PS3 and now i want to watch the quality movies on them.I am confuse between the 720p and the 1080p terms in the blu-ray and what is the difference between them and effect it will provide on the quality of the pictures. so, please provide me with the suggestion that will resolve my issue.

There is a huge mystery right now concerning the need to buy a 1080p set or not. As you are using the Philips LCD which is 32'' in size you should go for the Sony blu-ray as it provides a great picture quality and 3D experience. There are also other options which are available as Samsung,LG which provides a good competition to Sony. If you go for the Sony that will the best deal with your Philips LCD.

As you want a blu-ray for your LCD, there are a number of them available in the market but the Panasonic will provide you the best quality at best performance with the best prices. The ultimate solution for you is that you go to the dealer and take a demo of all the blu-rays and then decide which will suite you the best and select from there.
