13" to 14" laptop for $900, light gaming, mobility and an iPad.

Basically I travel a lot for business trips, and I need laptops and iPad for that purpose. I need both of them because thing is that if my trip is for few days then it will be better to have iPad for doing my work in that place carrying the laptop is a bulky thing to have. But if I am going for a trip that will consume few weeks then for sure the work cannot be done on iPad in that case I need laptop. In simple word I need to have both and that also in the budget of $900.

Well if you are using iPad then one thing is for sure that typing on iPad is not enjoyable, I mean you cannot use that thing for word processing, but everything else can be done on this. And the other thing laptop then according to me HP Envy is the better one to have for the type of work you need to do. If you are ready spend some more amount; this is the machine you can have.

I am a fan of Sony products hence if you ask then this is the only one that you can have. Sony offers with its new 14-inch laptop colorful Vaio EA1S1E a versatile model to less than $ 1000 in Intel Calpella platform with a dedicated ATI graphics card, processor Arrandale and screen resolution. A pressure on this Web button at the top of the keyboard provides access to the Internet in seconds and view e-mails so that pressing the button Vaio gives direct access to media files on the PC (video, photo, music).

I totally agree with the above reply. Except for the white model, others wear a black keyboard. It is composed of flat keys well spaced from each other. The multi-touch touchpad, offset on the left, and it has two buttons. The connection takes place mostly on the left side with the power connector, Ethernet, an air vent, VGA, HDMI, USB / e-SATA and Expresscard, and right 3 other U.S. front, the optical unit and a fastener Kensington. The audio ports and card readers are themselves present at the front.

It totally depends on the variety of your use: Word games, msn net, Photoshop, core 2 duo. After 7600 there is more than enough for "old" games after me, because I know that with all the games spend with graphic max, so. Approximately around $1000 and for vista if you are not very skilled in IT, I think it is not required. If not go have a look at dell, it's cheap (but not connected games, rather use "classic") but power is frankly you will not get the thing you are in need.

I am also looking for a compatible portable gnu / linux in almost the same price ( 900 max I finally see him again in the $700). Looking for a portable sound quality moderately performance (just to make the graphics and play some games like Quake III, Warcraft III ).It will be better if you advise on vaio a bit expensive but it will be better or not. I will be waiting for the related reply.

Just one thing: unless you want that Windows 7, avoid like the plague laptops optimum. This stuff is not supported under Linux. So my asus, bought two weeks ago, and the balance bah is not glorious: Hacks to make monsters walk the touchpad, keyboard shortcuts to disable it does not walk; Picture of the webcam upside cheese does not start; No 3D with nvidia card: use the official drivers makes the screen black with no other option but to format it to make up for everything. The only solution is to disable it, and it can be done manually in console at every boot with a kernel module that induces crappy kernel panic, coupled with a script. Autonomy less than under Windows, powertop is good, but he proposes to do optimizations that a session lasts, and some are all planted. I have given the details but the final decision depends on you want to choose for yourself.
