    MacBook Air freezes intermittently

I have been using Mac systems for a long time but have never faced such problems with it before. I have recently bought a Macbook Air which is installed with Mac OS X 10.5 on it. The Macbook was working fine but now the Macbook Air freezes intermittently. Whenever any application is started on the computer, it takes lot of time to open. When the Macbook freezes, only the mouse is working but I am not able to access anything. Therefore if anybody knows how to solve this problem then please share some information about the topic. Thanks in advance.

Most of the problems which are associated to the Mac systems are solved by doing a PRAM reset. Sometimes invalid entries get stored in the RAM of the system. If the system RAM gets flooded with the invalid entries then the operating system on the computer will not work properly. To bring the system back to working state, you will have to reset the PRAM. To perform a PRAM reset, follow the steps below :-
    1. Shut down the computer and disconnect it from the AC source.
    2. Locate the following buttons (Apple, Option, R and P)
    3. Press and hold this buttons while booting the computer.
    4. Keep the buttons pressed till 3 startup chimes are heard.
    5. Release the buttons as soon as 3rd startup chime is heard.

Let the system boot normally and see if the problem persists.

According to me the problem which you are facing is due to overheating of the Macbook. To execute any process or open any application on the computer, the CPU has to work. While executing processes the CPU of the computer gets heated up. If the CPU temperature reaches the threshold temperature the performance of the computer degrades and sometime results in system freezing. Therefore check if the cooling fan of the Macbook is working properly or not. If the cooling fan is covered with dust then clean it as dust will block the Air flow of the computer. After cleaning the fan see if the performance of the computer improves

The operating system on the computer must be not working properly due to which the computer is failing. Operating system which is installed on the computer has lot of files which are associated to it. All the files are necessary to make the operating system work properly. If any of the file of the operating system is not working properly then the operating system will crash. Try reinstalling the operating system on the computer and then see if the problem is solved. Insert the installation disk of operating system and install the operating system in Install/archive mode. Once installed, see if the problem is solved or not.

The new Macbooks which are available are powered with Intel processors. All the lower level functions in the Intel based Macbooks are controlled by the SMC. If the SMC is not working properly then the system will freeze frequently. To reset SMC of the Macbook, shut down the Macbook and disconnect it from the AC source. Remove the battery and press the power button. Keep the power button pressed for about 30 seconds. Replace the battery and see if the performance of the computer improves.
