Macbook Air does not shut down

I have been using Mac systems for a long time and have never faced such problems with it. I have recently bought a Macbook Air which is installed with Mac OS X Snow leopard. The Macbook worked fine for few days but now the Macbook Air does not shut down. Whenever the Macbook is tried to shut down, it restarts. Also the performance of the Macbook has degraded a lot. What can be the reason behind such problem. Please help.

Most of the problems related to the MAC systems are solved by performing a PRAM reset. Many times invalid entries get stored in the system RAM. If the system RAM of the computer is flooded with invalid entries then the operating system will not work properly. You will have to clear all the invalid entries from the system RAM of the computer. To remove all the invalid entries from the system RAM. Shut down the computer and locate the following keys (Apple, Option, R and P). Press and hold the following keys while booting the computer. Keep the keys pressed till three start up chimes are heard. Once 3rd startup chime is heard, release the keys and let the computer boot normally.

All the functions which are performed by the computer are controlled by the motherboard of the computer. The functions of the logic board include providing correct power voltages to all the peripherals of the computer and to take all the logical decisions. Therefore if the logic board of the computer is not working properly then the system will not work properly. Therefore I would suggest you to get the logic board of the Macbook checked and if there is any fault with the logic board, then get it replaced. Once the logic board is replaced you will not face similar problems again.

There must be lot of processes running on the computer due to which the performance of the computer is suffering. Every process requires some CPU and memory allocation to get executed. If lot of processes are running together then lot of memory and CPU will be taken up and hence the CPU will require more time to execute any new application which results in slowing down of the compute. Therefore open the Activity monitor and check all the processes which are running. Terminate all the processes which are unwanted and taking up lot of CPU and memory usage. After terminating the processes, see if the performance improves or not.

By looking at the problem, it looks like a operating system failure. Operating system is responsible for interfacing between the computer and the user. If the operating system is not working properly then the system will not work properly. If you have the installation disk of the operating system which you are using, then insert it in th drive and boot the system from the drive. Select the install/archive mode installation which will enable you to use the applications installed on the previous operating system. Once the operating system is reinstalled, check if the computer is working properly.
