Loading circles keeps spinning when the Powerbook is booted

I have been using Mac systems for a while now but have never faced such errors with it before. I have a Powerbook which is installed with Mac OS X Snow Leopard on it. The problem is the Loading circles keeps spinning when the Powerbook is booted. When the power button is pressed, It shows that the operating system is being loaded but nothing except the loading circle spinning occurs. The system gets stuck at the loading circle. I cant figure what is causing such problem and hence will be needing your help in solving the issue.

I think the problem is with the operating system which is installed on the power book. If the operating system on the computer is not working properly, then the system is bound to give such problems. Operating system is carries out all the functions of the computer. If the operating system itself if corrupt then the system will not work properly. Insert the installation disk of the operating system and boot the system from the installation disk. Once the installer loads and gives options for installation, install a fresh copy of operating system and then see if the Powerbook is working properly or not.

Try doing a PRAM reset and see if it works. Sometimes invalid entries get stored in the system memory. If the system memory gets flooded with such invalid entries then the operating system will now function properly. Hence to make the operating system work properly, you will have to clear all the invalid entries from the system RAM. Follow these steps to perform PRAM reset, locate the following keys (Apple, Option, R and P). Press and hold the following keys while booting the system. Keep the keys pressed till three start up chimes are heard. Once 3rd startup chime is heard, release the keys and let the system boot normally. Hopefully the system will boot.

Have you tried booting the system in safe mode? I would suggest that you try booting the system in safe mode and see if the powerbook is working properly or not. Sometimes the applications which are installed on the system create the problems like the one which you are facing. To check if any of the installed application is creating problems while booting, boot the system in safe mode. Press Shift button while booting the system. Keep the button pressed till the safe mode menus is displayed. Boot in safe mode and check the performance of the computer in safe mode. If the system works properly in safe mode then find and remove the application which is creating problems in normal working of the computer.

It could be some hardware problem also hence I would suggest you to perform the hardware test on the powerbook. To perform the hardware test, insert the installation disk of the operating system in the drive and boot the system from the disk. Go to utilities menu and select Disk Utility. Now select repair "the internal hard drive" option and let the procedure complete. If there are any errors while performing procedure, then the hard drive of the computer is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the disk utility does not report any problems, then perform the tests on different hardware and see if there are any errors encountered.
