It is very common to hear of the importance, during the initial charging time, to completely empty the battery. This should eventually allow it to last longer. Wrong! Instead, take care not to fall below the threshold of 5% of load to avoid damaging the electrical system and batteries for your battery.

At first, it is recommended to impose your battery fully charged. Go down its level up to 5% and load up to 100% without interruption. This calibration will enable you to enjoy optimum performance of the battery. For benchmarking to be effective, repeat this process every month.

Meanwhile, you can make small steps to recharge, even incomplete. Note that a standard battery supports between 500 and 1 000 full charge cycles.

When you use your laptop connected to the outlet (once the battery charge), it is preferable to remove the battery and store it in a place away from heat and humidity. You just make sure you do not forget to recharge before using your mobile outside area!

Battery is actually the lung of your laptop. So when you're away, she takes the relay to allow you to use your computer without a power outlet within reach. Once your notebook battery fully charged, it is then observed a few rules to minimize your energy consumption and extend the battery life of your laptop when not connected to the mains. Windows XP and Windows Vista and have functions to manage precisely the power to your laptop and disable different elements after a certain period of inactivity. Finally, if your battery is showing signs of weakness, you can replace a battery or by a more powerful battery and you will thus have greater autonomy.

Once your notebook battery fully charged, then he should observe a few rules to minimize your energy consumption and extend the battery life of your laptop when not connected to the mains. If you want to prolong the battery, it is preferable not to run parts of games that exploit the 3D capabilities of your graphics card very voracious energy. Similarly, the use of drive or DVD recorder to watch a movie may begin considerably the autonomy of your PC. It is thus preferable to encode your movies to DivX and storing them on disk from which the reading will be less greedy. Similarly, it is better to listen to MP3s on his hard drive rather than playing an audio CD.

To optimize the maximum battery life, we suggest you also disable the controllers Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so you do not currently use them. Use it for keyboard shortcuts or buttons for this purpose. When you're on battery, also prevent the use of external self-powered devices such as USB keys, mouse, hard drive etc..

Windows XP and Vista allow you to accurately manage the power of your laptop and disable different elements after a certain period of inactivity. To do so click the right button mouse on a blank area of the desktop and choose the Customize command on Vista or XP Properties. Open the Screen Saver tab. Then click on the Edit button power settings for Windows Vista, or Power Management for Windows XP.

Windows XP and Windows Vista both offer pre-programmed modes of power management. You can choose one that best fits the use you want to make your machine. Thus, to maximize the battery life, choose the mode Minimal Power Management for Windows XP and Saving energy for Vista. These options determine the waiting time before the extinction of the monitor, stop or hard disks, standby simple and extended, that your computer is connected to AC or battery. Finally, click on the OK button

The screen is one of the most greedy of your computer. To save your battery, you can simply reduce the brightness of the screen. Most laptops allow you to change the brightness of the screen using a keyboard shortcut. Here is how you can adjust the brightness of the screen:
    • Locate keys to adjust screen brightness. They are usually found with the function keys (F1, F2, F3, ...) or with the arrow keys.
    • Press the Fn key and press the button to lower the screen brightness.
    • The brightness on the screen then decreases. Repeat until you have a brightness level as low as possible, but while remaining readable.
    • Go back if needed brightness by pressing the Fn key and pressing the button to increase brightness.
