    Clicking Sound in Macbook Pro

Hello, I have recently bought a Macbook Pro which is installed with Mac operating system 10.6 Snow Leopard. I am facing a small problem with the New Macbook. The Macbook Pro makes a regular clicking sound when used. The clicking sound is not very loud but is audible at regular interval of times. I am very confused and need your help in finding the solutions. The sound comes from near of E R T keys on the keyboard and lasts for about 4 to 5 seconds. Is this some hardware issue? Please help.

As the Macbook is recently bought, it must be under the 1 year warranty cover of the Apple support. Take your Macbook to the nearest Apple Care center and get the Macbook checked. The Apple support members will check the Macbook and will let you know what exactly the problem is. If there is any Hardware issue, they will either replace the noise creating faulty hardware for free or will replace the Macbook if the problem is unsolvable. Before taking the macbook to the Apple care center, take the back up of all your Important data.

Re: Clicking Sound in Macbook Pro

Normally the Clicking sound is not encountered in the Macbook or any laptop. Clicking sound is more prominent in the Desktop computers as the moveable parts are more in the Desktop computers. There is definitely something wrong with the Macbook you are using. Get the Macbook checked by some professional technician to be sure about the reason due to which the clicking is occuring. Clicking refers to some hardware defect which has to be resolved as soon as possible before the problem increases.

I think the hard disk of the Macbook is creating the clicking sound. Clicking sound is mostly related to the hard disk. Hard disk consist of the movable head and platters which are arranged properly in order to read the data with minimum delay. If this arrangement of the Movable head and the platters changes, the hard disk creates clicking sound. Clicking generally means that the hard disk is faulty and needs to be replaced. I would suggest you to take the back up of the data as soon as possible as the hard disk may fail anytime.

Re: Clicking Sound in Macbook Pro

You have mentioned that the clicking sound coming from near the E R and T keys which is far away from the position of the hard disk in the Macbook. Hence the clicking sound is not coming from the hard drive. The cooling Fan of the Macbook is close to E R and T keys and hence it may be the problem behind it. To check if the clicking sound is due to the cooling Fan, you can put the Macbook to sleep and then check if the clicking sound is coming or not. In sleep mode the cooling fan is at rest and hence if the clicking sound is due to the Fan then it wont come in sleep mode.

Re: Clicking Sound in Macbook Pro

You cannot ignore the Software side of the Macbook for creating the clicking sound. Clicking sound can also come from the speakers of the Macbook if there is some power fluctuation or if the Sound drivers are not installed properly. Check if there is any power fluctuation happening in the Mains line while the Macbook is being used. Also check if the sound drivers are installed properly on the Macbook as improper installation will make the sound devices to work improperly which may create the Clicking sound.
