So, can any body tell me that how to restore factory settings on my Dell inspiron 1545 laptop? Any one knows about it? Please let me know the correct way for doing it.

Restoring to factory settings will reinstall Windows, Dell proprietary utilities and drivers, other third party drivers and all default settings. Your Inspiron should have a Utility partition on the hard drive that contains an Image of the system as it was when first shipped to you from the factory. It's called "Image Restore" (or PC restore).

If you didn't delete the recovery partition you could use that. You can just do a reinstall, it will be factory default, since their is a program that launches after setup to put everything back on like default factory settings.

Try hitting ctrl and F-11 during boot up. Right when you turn the laptop on during the dell screen. You can try to restore your system to an earlier date using system restore on safe mode. To perform the Dell PC Restore this really depends on what Operating System the Dell shipped with. Please note this type of restore will remove everything that has been added (files, programs etc) since receiving the system from Dell.

Having no success with Ctrl+F11 to try to run a Factory Restore, I went on Dell Support Chat, and this is what they told me:

    1. Shut down the Computer.
    2. Turn on the Computer and start pressing the “F8” Key on the first Dell logo. Keep on pressing the “F8” key on first Dell screen until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the scre

Re: Dell Inspiron 1545 back to factory settings

    Can anyone help.
I have the same sort of problem although I am able to get to the screen that ask for your user name and password which I can not remember. I have tried leaving it blank and the old favourite admistrator but no joy.

I do not have the disc to restore it back to factory settings so that option is ruled out.

I have contacted Dell and they have informed me the only way to do it is to pay them £60 quid which to be honest I don't fancy doing.

Is there anyway around this issue

If you have forgotten the username and password then dont worry, cause with a simple password recovery tool you can reset them again. Download the Windows Password Key 8.0 Build 1887. Alternately you can also download another password reset tools by searching it from here - http://www.techarena.in/search/node/...ype%3Adownload

Pressing F5 worked for me. Took me to boot options screen with safe mode and etc. Also at to was repair computer. Used that and the options are all in there using datasafe utility. Make sure you backup your data. However, there are options to backup data using this utility prior to the system image restore.
    Good Luck.
