With respect to build in quality, i prefer to go with Optiplexes which are superior but with regards to specification is concern, then i would prefer to go with the Vostros.

Vostro desktops are built for small businesses with a simple or no network, let say for 1 to 25 employees, whereas the OptiPlex line is Network-optimized for businesses with more than 10 employees. It is designed to allow for managed transitions and to have a low total cost of ownership. OptiPlex is perfect for a large networked environment, long-term stability and business-class computing.

    Re: Vostro vs Optiplex

The Dell Optiplex range of desktop is for business users who work in a network environment (like small businesses or corporate offices) where you have a dedicated team of IT staff to support your workstations.Optiplex are of very high build quality. They are enterprise level machine, as reflected by their pricing. For example, and Optiplex is guaranteed to be silent, and the casing is not made of cheap plastic. Dell Optiplex comes in AMD or Intel Processors and recommended for offices with a staff less than 10 employees. Whereas Dell Vostro desktop are affordable desktops with dual core processors again designed for small businesses. They have enough power to run most business applications though for high-end graphics, you may want to look at the Precision Dell computers. Software wise, Optiplexes all use the same software image, so you can simply take your HD from your old Optiplex and use it on your new one without having to reinstall anything.

However, for your needs, a Vostro should be just fine. But, do note that the Vostro has a pretty old motherboard. If you want something more futureproof, consider the Dell XPS range.
