Those of you in the IT business might be interested to know that Apple has released iPhoen Configuration Utility 2.0 for Mac OS X and Windows. iPhone Configuration Utility lets you easily create, maintain, encrypt, and push configuration profiles, track and install provisioning profiles and authorized applications, and capture device information including console logs. Not much is different on the Windows side. However, PC users do need to meet some requirements, including Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 with .NET 3.5 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 with .NET 3.5 Service Pack 1.
Configuration profiles are XML files that contain device security policies, VPN configuration information, Wi-Fi settings, APN settings, Exchange account settings, mail settings, and certificates that permit iPhone and iPod touch to work with your enterprise systems. Apple also points out that there is a node of the share which the users of Windows utility allows for a message from Outlook with a configuration profile as a commitment to create. More options are available, says Apple.
There are no notes from Apple on what’s new in the update. But it probably includes support for iPhone OS 3.0 and the iPhone OS 3G S. iPhone Configuration Utility 2.0 for Mac and Windows is available now as a free download from Apple’s website.
