How can i encrypt my pen drive

I am carrying a USB pen drive, which has many important files and folders. I need to protect it with a password so that any one can not be able to see what is there in my Pen drive. Could any one of you make me know how can i make it password protected ?

Well, the one and only way i can suggest you is a freeware called TrueCrypt. Its is a Free Open-Source Disk Encryption Software. It is an is an excellent utility that can password protect the USB flash drive / pendrives, your hard disk’s and other devices too. If you only need a small portion in your USB flash drive / pendrive that needs to be encrypted, you can do that too with ease using TrueCrypt.

It enables you to create a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mount it as a virtual disk, that can be accessed via a drive letter. Any file that is stored on this virtual drive is automatically encrypted on-the-fly, and can only be accessed while the drive is mounted with the correct password or key. TrueCrypt supports a variety of encryption algorithms, including AES-256, Blowfish (448-bit key), CAST5, Serpent, Triple DES, and Twofish.

    Download TrueCrypt

here is the step by step way of encrypting your pen drive:

Once you got downloaded TrueCrypt, install it in the pendrive or let it get install on its own default folder in the pendrive.

Now from its window once you click on Create Volume, it will TrueCrypt Volume Creation Wizard Window.Leave the First Option “ Create an encrypted file container “selected and click on Next.

Now you will see a option Standard TrueCrypt Volume, leave it selected and click next.

Now click on the Select File option in the new window and go to your pendrive’s location.Enter a file name and click save. This file now created by TrueCrypt on your USB Flash Drive / Pendrive will be the store house of the files that we encrypt later. Click on Next.Under Encryption Algorithm leave it as AES on and select Whirlpool from Hash Algorithm and click Next.

Here you have to enter the space you need for keeping the encrypted files.Once done, click on next and create a password and again hit Next and click on Format option.

Open TrueCrypt to select the area where the encrypted data needs to be mounted. Choose the “ Select Files ” option and pick the encrypted file area in your USB Flash Drive / Pendrive and click Open .

Now enter an unused Drive letter and click on Mount. Now enter the password and windows will mount you encrypted data in your Pen drive.

Thats it.. you are done. Now remember to Dismount before pluging out your pendrive from the computer.
