Try remove the old stuff and then turn around and re-install the same old equipment. That should do it.

    OR

After you install the toner cartridge into the new drum unit, insert the drum unit in the printer but leave the front cover open. "Keep holding down the button until all LED's turn on with the front cover open, then release the button." "Make sure that the drum LED is off. Close the front cover." I forgot to mention, I have a Brother HL-1440. I would imagine this would be the same procedure for the older HL-1240.

I'm not sure how it's done in the DR400 drum. On the DR200 there was a plastic strip labeled "Please throw me away". When the printer was turned on, the strip moved through the printer and reset the drum count. The DR400 could have a similar reset procedure. Of course, once you throw the strip away like they want you to, you can't reset the count.

    OR

Open front cover. Hold down button located under LED's until all LED's are lit. Release button and make sure drum LED is off, then close cover. For some odd reason this procedure is not in any Brother manuals.

    OR

I used this technique to reset my printer after the drum light stayed on and trying all the other tricks.

    It worked!
We were just going to throw the printer out but now we don't have to.

    Resetting the maintenance-kit counter

NOTE: Perform this procedure only after a maintenance kit has been installed. Do not use this procedure to temporarily clear the "PERFORM PRINTER MAINTENANCE" message.

    Turn the printer power off.

Hold down (Select), and then turn the printer power on. Continue holding down (Select) for several seconds, until all three printer control panel lights flash once, and then remain on. This might take up to 10 seconds.

Use (Up Arrow) to scroll to NEW MAINTENANCE KIT.

Press (Select) to reset the maintenance-kit counter.

    To reset the maintenance count on a 8000N . . .
Power off the printer. While powering on the printer, hold down the Item-Minus and Value-Minus keys until "Reset Maint Count" appears in the display. Once it appears, let go of the keys. This will reset the pages since last maintenance back to zero. Now that this is done, cycle the menu key until configuration menu appears, then cycle the item key until "Service Message=" appears, set it to off. Now you are ready to print anothetr 300,000 pages until maintenance is due again.
