I just transfer the photos (by mail) that I took with my iphone 3g on my mac and on opening a graphic converter I found that it's 800 by 600 or 0.5 megapixels.

The mail from the iphone performs, but is there any compression of images?

Is this a normal effect that apple has created my goal or have a problem?

It is a normal phenomenon that is due at time of scanning an image by the sensor of the iPhone. The cheap CMOS sensor of an iPhone does not expose the whole thing at once, it scans from left to right. If you take a picture of something that moves very fast (like an airplane prop) you can get some crazy pictures out of it since each column represents a slightly different time.
