BenQ has announced the cost reduction of its Netbook, Joybook Lite U101 to Rs. 24,500 for an introductory period. Releasing on schedule, the netbook was initially priced at Rs. 28,000.

The U101 features a 10.1-inch, 16:9 wide LED backlight screen, weighs 1.1 kg, possesses 160GB storage capacity, has a keyboard that is 90% size of generic notebooks
and a battery lifespan upto 7.2 hours. The netbook also features built-in speakers and a 1.3 mega pixel webcam.

The netbook has been designed with faceplates patterned with emoticons on a scratch-free, In-Mold Roller (IMR) cover.

BenQ has also introduced a retail policy for its channel partners called ‘BenQ Spot’, where BenQ will support the designated outlets in branding exercise, providing manpower and marketing efforts towards keeping and selling the entire range of BenQ products. BenQ’s plan is to increase engagement with the channel partners by providing them more focused and quality support and equip them better to sell BenQ’s range of products.

This netbook looks a lot like many other netbooks on the market today. It has a 10.2 inch display, a 1.6GHz Inte l Atom CPU, and runs Windows XP. But there are a few things that set it apart.

First, this netbook has a 16:9 aspect ratio display. That means you get 1024 x 576 pixels instead of the 1024 x 600 pixel screen that’s become standard fare on today’s netbooks. While that’s great if you’re watching HD movies which often come in a 16:9 aspect ratio, it means you do lose a few pixels that can come in handy when browsing the web or typing documents. I’d probably rather have thos pixels than the ability to make vidieo fit the screen better.

There are several access panels on the back. When you open them up, you’ll find an empty PATA/ZIF slot that you could use to add a hard drive or SSD. And there’s a spare mini PCI-e slot by the RAM which could come in handy for a 3G modem or other goodies. Of course, you’ll void your warranty by adding those parts. But hey, netbooks are cheap. Who needs a warranty? Right!!

Re: BenQ JoyBook Lite U101 Now Cheaper

The BenQ Joybook Lite U101 offers a 10.2 inch LCD 16:9 display but had somewhat of a cramped keyboard.

One thing the BenQ Joybook Lite U101 does have going for it though is that it’s a modder’s joy that offers easy access to the RAM and un-occupied PCI slot which waits for a cool 3G modem.
