The first portable computer of French Emtec will also be the work of the community. The manufacturer has launched its program OLPH (One Laptop Per Hacker) to provide a complete development kit to anyone who would participate in the development of its Netbook Gdium.
So Emtec announced a price of around 400 euros in May, the lucky program OLPH should themselves be able to acquire a prototype Netbook Gdium USB keys and two G-Key (system and development tools) for only 250 euros TTC. It is also possible to register as a "friend" just to have access to Gdium.
Emtec would unite as a community around the Netbook Gdium Liberty in 1000 to offer attractive content and become a fierce competitor to the Eee PC 900. Emtec that remains is the latest entrant into the already highly competitive market, which will soon be meeting Asus, Medion, MSI, HP, Airis and others.
