Addonics' USB-to-NAS adapter: converts all external hard drives in NAS

The specialist storage Addonics has recently launched the NAS Adapter, a device to access a USB device on a LAN.

With a USB 2.0 port and an RJ45 connector, it allows any external USB hard drive to become a NAS server storage network. Like the latter, it supports the protocol Samba accessible from Windows, Mac OS X and various Linux distributions. It also has an FTP server hosting up to 8 simultaneous customers, customer BitTorrent to download peer-to-peer independently or a print server. He finally joined the UPnP AV technology to share multimedia content (photo / video / music) with some devices like an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

So he joined the main features of a NAS course but instead merely a Fast Ethernet network connectivity capped at 100 Mbps. The majority of NAS have about them a Gigabit Ethernet connections climbing to 1 Gbps (1 000 Mbps). However, being marketed directly by the manufacturer $ 55 (about 40 euros), it presents an excellent solution for recycling old unused external hard drives.
