Open your control panel, click on cameras icon, and set it up there..you may need to re install software (driver) too.

Windows uses WDM Video Capture Device. This does not work with MSN Messenger V 7 on some webcams (A Logitech in my case).
An older Video Capture Device called "Video For Windows" can be loaded. I did this via the System.Ini file. (sorry guys I lost the log of how to do this).
In Windows 98/98 SE you can find the capture device in Control Panel, Multimedia Settings.
However, if one removes if from there it re-installs itself later. So the change has to be permanently set up when Windows loads the System.ini file.

hmm i think you should reinstall OS and if the laptop is under warranty period then take the advantage of that. Gppd luck.
