Keeping holiday season in mind, Acer introduced four new laptop models based on its Gemstone platform: Aspire 8930, 6930, 5735 and 4730.
Much like its predecessor the 8920G, the new Aspire 8930 is the a high-end multimedia notebook with an 18.4-inch HD CineCrystal widescreen display for intense color and visual detail and an optional Blu-ray player. It also features NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT video card with 512MB of memory, Dolby audio, and a 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. It will retail for $1700.
On the other hand, the Aspire 6930 provides a unique 16-inch HD CineCrystal LCD panel with 16:9 aspect ratio, and Dolby Home Theater surround sound and a sub-woofer for premium audio. This is designed especially for movie fans.
However, it removes some of the 8930’s features and is priced at only $700. The processor is just at 2.0GHz, it gets only 3GB of memory, and the discrete graphic card disappears in favor of an integrated Intel 4500MD model.
The other two models, Aspire 5735 and 4730, will both occupy the same low price tag of $550. Other than 5735 having 15.6-inch screen and the 4730 having 14.1-inch, the notebooks gets very similar hardware specs; including 2.0GHz Intel Dual-Core Mobile processor, 2GB of RAM, and integrated graphics. Accessories including an 8X DVD drive, 5-in-1 multimedia card reader, and 802.11n Wi-Fi card also match up, but the smaller computer also gets a smaller hard drive: 120GB to the 5735’s 160GB.
