    Toshiba's Dynabook SS RX2: 12.5-hour battery and still world's lightest 12.1-incher



    The Dynabook SS RX1 makes the bump to the RX2 while grabbing the title to the world's lightest 12.1-inch laptop. Or so says Toshiba. Fortunately, Tosh didn't skimp on battery life (up to 12.5-hours when configured with an SSD) to achieve that 858-grams (1.89-pounds) weight. Shipping in late September, the SS RX2 features a semi-rugged frame, a 1.2GHz SU9300 ULV Core 2 Duo processor; up to 160GB of hard disk (or 128GB SSD); an LED backlit 12.1-inch 1,280 x 800 pixel display; up to 3GB of memory .Intel GS45 Express graphics chipset; 3x USB and 1x eSATA; 802.11a/b/g/n draft 2.0; integrated DVD super-multi drive; and built-in 3G data -- a road warrior's weapon of paradise.

    Although not free of defects, Toshiba Dynabook SS RX1, marketed under the name West R500, is one of the laptops the lightest in the market and therefore enjoys a certain success esteem. It must be said that with a diagonal screen of 12 inches, allowing therefore consider working in conditions of comfort correct, the R500 has a weight which revolves around the kilogram, or below, since with the Dynabook SS RX2 last declination of the chassis just launched in Japan, Toshiba offers a machine that can n'accuser than 858 grams on the balance.

    What claim the title of 12 inches the lightest in the world? To achieve this weight record, it will rely on a disc-type SSD (128 GB) and be content with a three battery cells, but we can still enjoy a scanner. Various configurations will be offered: a magnetic disk drive (160 GB) and a battery six cells, the weight will settle at around 1.1 Kg The configuration is driven by a low consumption SU9300 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, up to 3 GB of RAM and an Intel chipset GS45 Express circuit with integrated graphics.

    Add to that a location for SIM card compatible with the Japanese 3G networks, WiFi, Bluetooth and a license Vista Business, and you have a machine capable of seducing the real mobility enthusiasts who do not yield to netbook fashion. The final prices are not yet known, but the price of the first generation R500 has long gravity between 2000 and 2500 euros in Europe.

    really superb, a portable 858g! Especially with an integrated optical drive!
