Intel partner for the development of flash memory chips faster than existing Micron this week announced the forthcoming introduction of new disk-type SSD (Solid State Drive) with a theoretical speed reading of 250 Mb / s, for a writing speed up to 100 Mb / s. These discs adopt a SATA interface to 3 Gbps, and offer a power consumption estimated at 2.5 W when they are active, against 0.3 W when they are at rest. They also offer a MTBF (mean time between failure) of over two million hours.
These records will be broken into two lines: P200, for business and the world of servers using chips such SLC (Single-Level Cell) and the C200, addressed to the general public and adopting for their share of bullets MLC (Multi-Level Cell), cheaper, but also less efficient. Micron said to propose these discs in capacities ranging from 16 to 128 GB for 1.8-inch models, the capacity could go up to 256 GB for 2.5-inch discs. No price has yet been communicated to the DSS, which should be available during the fourth quarter.
