ASRock

ASRock Inc. produces motherboards, in the past mainly for the budget-mainstream sector but more recently also focusing on high-end motherboards. It was started in 2002 in Taiwan as a subsidiary of ASUS.

In the beginning, they were mainly known for producing low-cost OEM solutions based on less expensive outdated chipsets. This turned out to be quite successful because of their price and reliability. Since then ASRock has evolved into producing creative value-oriented solutions, often with an eye on multiple compatibility. They have been producing motherboards with both Socket 478 and Socket LGA775 support, with both Socket 754 and Socket 939 support, and more recently Socket AM2 with both AGP and PCI Express support, as well as boards with Future CPU Ports that allow the installation of a card with a future CPU socket and memory interface on it. In addition, recently ASRock have been producing motherboards with relatively up-to-date chipsets, like the AMD 780G chipset, Intel P965, P45 etc.

ASUS

ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated (ASUS), a Taiwanese multinational company, produces motherboards, graphics cards, optical drives, PDAs, computer monitors, notebook computers, servers, networking products, mobile phones, computer cases, computer components, and computer cooling systems. Commonly called by its brand name ASUS, it is listed on both the London Stock Exchange and the Taiwan Stock Exchange. In 2007, one in three desktop PCs sold used an ASUS motherboard; and the company's 2007 revenues reached US$6.9 billion.

ASUS appears in BusinessWeek’s InfoTech 100 and Asia’s Top 10 IT Companies rankings. It is the number one in quality and service according to Wall Street Journal Asia and leads the IT Hardware category of the 2008 Taiwan Top 10 Global Brands survey with a total brand value of US$1.324 billion

Gigabyte

Gigabyte Technology is a Taiwan-based manufacturer of computer hardware products best known for its motherboards. The company is publicly held and traded on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. In addition to the design and manufacture of motherboards hosting AMD and Intel processors, the company also makes graphics cards built around the ATI Technologies and NVIDIA GPUs, such as the GeForce GTX280 and Radeon HD 4870.

Secondary lines in the company's product portfolio include complete PCs, laptops, optical drives, LCD monitors, keyboards, mice, cooling components, mobile phones and high end mobile phone products (PDA phone, TV phone etc.), networking equipment, power supplies, and a line of barebone mid and full sized ATX computer cases.

Intel

Intel Corporation is the world's largest semiconductor company and the inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors, the processors found in most personal computers. Intel was founded on July 18, 1968 as Integrated Electronics Corporation and based in Santa Clara, California, USA. Intel also makes motherboard chipsets, network cards and ICs, flash memory, graphic chips, embedded processors, and other devices related to communications and computing. Founded by semiconductor pioneers Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore, and widely associated with the executive leadership and vision of Andrew Grove, Intel combines advanced chip design capability with a leading-edge manufacturing capability. Originally known primarily to engineers and technologists, Intel's successful "Intel Inside" advertising campaign of the 1990s made it and its Pentium processor household names.

Intel was an early developer of SRAM and DRAM memory chips, and this represented the majority of its business until the early 1980s. While Intel created the first commercial microprocessor chip in 1971, it was not until the success of the personal computer (PC) that this became their primary business. During the 1990s, Intel invested heavily in new microprocessor designs fostering the rapid growth of the PC industry. During this period Intel became the dominant supplier of microprocessors for PCs, and was known for aggressive and sometimes controversial tactics in defense of its market position, as well as a struggle with Microsoft for control over the direction of the PC industry. The 2007 rankings of the world's 100 most powerful brands published by Millward Brown Optimor showed the company's brand value falling 10 places – from number 15 to number 25.

In addition to its work in semiconductors, Intel has begun research in electrical transmission and generation.

MSI

Micro-Star International (MSI), is a Taiwan based computer hardware manufacturer best known for desktop computer motherboards. MSI also designs and manufactures graphics cards, barebone PCs, notebook computers, networking products, servers, multimedia, consumer electronics, and storage devices. Their motherboards support both AMD and Intel processors, including support for SLI and CrossFire, the multi-GPU solutions of Nvidia and ATI, the two major graphics processor manufacturers. The company (from 2007) is using dual core cell technology (self developed by MSI) for some models of their motherboards, that improves performance and audio/video fidelity (according to a MSI press release) by optimizing and integrating multiple integrated circuits. MSI was the first company to develop motherboards whose BIOS can be updated via the Internet. MSI, as most Taiwanese computer manufacturers, sells products on OEM/ODM basis. It also sells products worldwide based on its own brand name "MSI".

VIA

VIA Technologies is a Taiwanese manufacturer of integrated circuits, mainly motherboard chipsets, CPUs, and memory, and is part of the Formosa Plastics Group. It is the world's largest independent manufacturer of motherboard chipsets. As a fabless semiconductor company, VIA conducts research and development of its chipsets in-house, then subcontracts the actual manufacturing to third-party merchant foundries

I am also a great Follower of Gigabyte Motherboard, am also using this since I have started using my computer and it last for 4-5 years and the Best part of this Motherboard is that it supports most of the drivers...
