Applying Thermal Paste On Intel Core 2 Duo?

Im still confused here. I bought an intel core 2 duo box, and installed to motherboard directly without applying any thermal paste on it,

Should I apply some thermal paste on the stocked heatsink which came directly from factory?
if yes, which part on the heatsink should I apply this paste to ?

Just put the HSF on with duct tape and eat the paste.

No, seriously. Put a dot in the center of the CPU and spread it evenly across the entire surface of the spreader. Then attach the HSF.

And also make sure you put enough thermal paste coz you don't wanna see some high temps if you're gonna overclock.
