Intel Core i7 3770K after overclocking hits 85c temperature

I have a Intel Core i7 3770K processor and I have overclocked it to 4.5ghz with a Corsair h100 water cooler. So for testing purpose I ran Prim95 for 30 minutes and when I checked the temperature then it was already hitting 85c, so I think this might be not right? Can anyone tell me whether this is a very high temperature or what is the limit for this Core i7 3770K processor that it should be getting? Thanks for any help.

It will be good if you can keep the temperature under 85C because the maximum temp for Intel Core i7 3770K after overclocking should not exceed 105c. Even if you have done everything right by setting the voltages and all if you are not getting a stability for the processor then you should revert back to the original settings because whatever you do, like for example, if you play any game with this temp, then surely your computer will start to crash continuously.

What is the voltage settings you are using? I would say that you should try to drop a little of your voltage setting and see if it can run stably. Usually, with somewhat lower voltage you will get lower temperature. The temp that you are having seems a bit horrible for an ivy bridge cpu so it would be good if you can lower the temperature a bit to get a stable experience.

How old is the cooling unit? If it is pretty old then it might not be giving enought cooling so you can try getting an aftermarket cooler and see if that lowers the temperature for the CPU that you are using. The temperature that you are getting is pretty high and to test it you can play some games on your pc which will often crash hinting about the overclocking related issues only. The best temperature would be to stay below 80c on all cores.
