How to overclock Intel Core i5-4670k

I have a Asrock Z87 motherboard and I am trying to overclock the Intel Core i5-4670k processor on it. There is something that I want to know first, if there is a bios setting to prevent the processor core speed from dropping down when its idle and not busy? When I load the processor with aida64 then I can see the proper overclocked speeds but if I am just at the desktop then it throttles back to 800mhz? I just want it to stay at a fixed speed, so does anyone know what can be done in the bios to make this fixes? Thanks

Can you try to look for the Speedstep or EIST and have those disabled as well. I dont know about an Asrock motherboard but I dont think where is that options exactly. You can also try to check the power options in Windows. Just go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Processor Power Management. After that check at the minimum processor state and max processor state.

Well, you can try to do some stability test by using some stress applications like PRIME95 and test it for 5-6 hours. It it doesnt crash then it will be fine or you will have to adjust it properly. You will have to increase the CPU voltage and also increase the multiplier and setting of the CPU in O.C profile via the bios. Hope this helps you out.

I havent used any Z87 motherboards till now but if you want to do the overclocking then I will tell you that the more you increase the voltage the more your processor's life degrades. So, you can try to increase the multiplier by 3x, incase if the multiplayer is set to x15 then increase it to x15 or so, and then voltage to something stable and check the stability by running Prime95 programs for 4-5 hours.
