Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 Overclocking is not worth it

I am having this card and I can say that this card is working great but when it comes to overclocking then that goes very poor. I am telling this because in +50 (for 1161mhz) on the core, the RAM clocks at +500. I have also found on web that there are many of the people who are reporting the same. I just wanted to share this thing with the people over here have response from them, so I am posting here. If you have same experience with this or you have any further information on Overclocking Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 to share then please post that over here. I am sure that this is going to be very useful for other people who are searching for the same.

I think that you have not tried by setting up the memory to +0 offset. So just try by setting up the memory to +0 offset and after that overclock the core by itself. Manlky of the times, it is found that when the memory frequency is maxed out then it helps to limits the core OC a bit. I am not 100 percent sure that this will work for you but believe me, it is 100 percent worth to try. So do it and see if that helps you or not and reply us back with the result so that if it fails to work then we can try out some other solutions for this.

Re: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 Overclocking is not worth it

I would like to tell you that overclocking on a GeForce GTX 680 works a little differently than you would know from previous graphics cards. Could you set earlier when overclocking just a higher clock rate at which the card should work, so you have to specify the GeForce GTX 680 is now an offset to the base clock. It says that the card is no longer business as usual "X MHz clocks with accurate" but "with a Y MHz clocks more" to the base clock of 1006 MHz. This at first sounds almost the same but makes a big difference. As we have already seen in the section to boost GPU, the clock of the GeForce GTX 680 is not fixed. The overclocked card that is constantly up and down. That is when we clocked an offset of 100 MHz, the card does not necessarily indicate more base clock or + 100 Boost clock but somewhere in the range of the boost clock. The best way to look is, what the maximum clock offset because driving without a map can deduce quite well where the card will land up with overclocking.

Just like the "old" overclocking, the card will crash if you set the offset too high. So what we have learned from overclocking is, of course, you should also increase the power limit of the card, otherwise it will settled down sooner.

Re: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 Overclocking is not worth it

The world of video cards is becoming even more complex. There are several indications that point to a shrinking market. The integrated video solutions continue to gain ground and become more powerful (mainly AMD Fusion and Intel HD), so that many users find satisfactory performance they offer. However, the demand for dedicated graphics cards will never disappear completely. The first thing associated with these cards are the games, but there are many professionals who need to animation, complex CAD and other kinds of advanced processing. Cards with two integrated GPU has been a festival of performance in each generation, the GeForce GTX 690 does not seem to be the exception, but this card does not exist without their version of a single core, the GeForce GTX 680. OEMs have created many variations of this high-end card, and this time, people decided to give the Gigabyte GTX 680 Super OverClock touch.

Early models of Super OverClock presented by Gigabyte had the cooling system Windforce 3X, using three large blowers and fewer revolutions to reduce noise. However, this version of the GTX 680 Super OverClock Windforce 5X uses the system, which increases the amount of blowers to five and reduces the size of each of them that is only forty millimeters. Actually, the idea is that the blowers "get" hot air from the graphics card (sucking cold air through the heatsink), releasing it to the side of the housing and away from both the motherboard and the other components. Being a negative flow configuration, it is likely that the card works best with the presence of the side of the blower housing also expel hot air from the interior. The GeForce GTX 680 Super OverClock needs three bays for installation, something inside all usual for cards with special cooling systems.

The exact frequencies were not published, but Gigabyte speaks of an increase of 8.5 percent compared to the reference model. It was also mentioned that requires a power supply with a minimum of 500 watts. The card uses super-solid state capacitors, Dual BIOS solution for security. The biggest question is forty millimeters blowers. The smaller blower generates more noise, and five of them running at the speed necessary to maintain a safe temperature to the card, an entire carnival is expected within your house. LOL.

The first thing that you must en sure is that the memory is stable. If that is not stable then the gpu offset will not matter anymore. I would like to tell you that EVGA has announced a new video card based on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 which is characterized by overclocked clock speeds than the default made available with the reference design. GeForce GTX 680 Superclocked is the name of the model has GPU core clock frequency equal to 1,058 MHz and 1113 MHz maximum clock boost: the values are higher by 52 MHz and 55 MHz to 1,006 MHz and 1,058 MHz specifications NVIDIA. The card uses design and cooling system identical to the reference NVIDIA, adopted by all the partners currently on the market. A particular version, indicated with the name of GTX 680 Superclocked +, is supplied with a plate dissipation to be mounted to the rear of the card, which also fulfills the task of protecting the back of the PCB.

The Gigabyte GTX 680 SuperOverClock (Model GV-N680SO-2GD) feed 1 x PCIe 8-pin plus another connector 6-pin, includes other features such as materials Ultra Durable VGA +, DualBIOS, software Gigabyte OC Guru second generation phase Digital supply (PWM). the cooling system handles line 3 spaces or slots and comprises an upper housing, a heat sink (heatsink) with aluminum winglets, a copper base, 4 copper heatpipes 6mm and as mentioned 5 40mm fans that are on the lateral side of the cooling system. The card also features a flat backplate or casing that protects the backside of the PCB of the card.

The GPU Boost does not preclude the overclocking. This function can be disabled as with Intel CPUs, and one should always respect the parameters. For example, the overclocking is now achieved through an offset: you can easily push the frequency of basic 3D 100, 150 or even 200 MHz, but if a game was already at the limits of the TDP at the rate of default, will certainly not more fast. With applications that do not push the GTX 680 to the thermal limit, however, the offsets takes performance to the limit. The GPU Boost is designed to balance the frequency and voltage with each other in reference to the TDP, then overclocking is more effective thanks to a precise action on consumption. EVGA Precision X includes sliders for both the target consumer that the offset frequency of the GPU.

The GTX 680 has TDP of 195 W, but Nvidia says that the typical power consumption of the card is close to 170 W. Then move the slider to increase this value higher. With +32%, the highest setting of Precision X, you will arrive at the limit of 225 W can be due to two six-pin connectors and the energy available from the PCI Express slot.

To get the most out of your card is necessary to increase the Power Target, increasing operating margins in both the technology and GPU Boost. With the EVGA Precision utility X the upper limit is set on 132% of standard power, if we consider the total of about 258W TDP of 195W. During our tests we managed to complete our entire battery of tests by increasing the base frequency of 150MHz GPU and 200MHz for the memory, in full stability, an interesting result considering that GPU Boost automatically raised the frequency of the GPU over the final 1260MHz. To stabilize the card we decided to increase the speed of the fan to 65% from its maximum speed. Under these conditions the noise can be quite noticeable: for daily use is necessary to find the best compromise between comfort and acoustic performance.
