    Need information on Q9650

Hi I have heard many things about overclocking so I was thinking to overclock my CPU Intel Q9650. Whereas I have also gone through many topics related to overclocking but still I have many questions on it that I need to ask here hoping that I will get proper information on it. I was planning to upgrade to 3.5 GHz and also needed some advice on BIOS settings. So it would be great if some can share their ideas on it.

It would be great if I can share my thoughts with you and could help you on your overclocking issues. But before that I will have to know your current system details ass that would help me in guiding you in a better way. So please get back to me with your system details as soon as, so that it can help you fast. Thank you.

Sorry I forgot to mention some of the questions in above posts. I need to ask that till what extent a can increase my ram is it possible to increase till 4 GHz? As I have heard that it can be done! The second thing that I wanted to ask was that how can overclock affect any RAM settings.as my motherboard specs says that it can hold memory till 1600 MHz in overclocking. Can I overclock my current memory configuration which runs at 1333mhz as default or can my motherboard modules can accept 1600mhz if it is overclocked?

Ok I think that I can help you with the information. As the CPU's speed is identified by it's multiplier times the Front Side Bus. And as it's not an Extreme Edition, your CPU instead has a selectable range of multipliers from 6 to 9, in half steps. As if you want 4.0GHz with a multiplier of 9 you will have to get a Front Side Bus speed of 445MHz i.e. 445 x 9 = 4005. However, Front Side Bus also affects your RAM speed, as Front Side Bus of 445MHz forces your RAM to run at 1780MHz.

    Re: Need information on Q9650

I would suggest you to set the Front Side Bus and RAM speed as 1335MHzin your BIOS and board to be power at 445MHz with auto volts, now start computer with CPU multiplier at 7 instead of 9 and set CPU volts at 1.20. This would be safe CPU speed of 3.11GHz that would be stable. And incase if your computer crashes or comes up with some other problems, than you will have to increase voltage.
