EVGA precision under clocking my GTX 260

I have over clocked 740 MHz and shaders to 1480 unlink, but the EVGA precision drops it down to half of it around 320 MHz. but the thing is that everest and GPU-Z remains at 740 MHz. Then if I lower the core to 720 MHz then EVGA precision speed goes to 720 MHz. This is some kind of bug or not. I just want to know why EVGA precision under clocking my GTX 260.

Just make one thing for sure that you are not reading the 2D clock speed. Normally for conserving the power the card drops the clock at the time it is 2D, and it will goes back to the game 3D. One more thing if you can give the full specification of your laptop, it will be better to understand the problem.

What drivers are you using? I had exactly the same problem where the jump from 2d to low power3d condition but not full 3d mode, thankfully I have dual boot, so I checked it in vista, and it was fine, so I think it is the force ware 177.79 drivers is the problem. However, I have uninstalled and run driver sweeper before a new installation of 177.41, but the problem was still in window XP, I will try to reinstall it later, staying in vista for now.

According to me you should not e worried about the GPU clock which is falling to 100 in full 3D and it is 300-400 in 2d/low 3d mode and if overclocked because it is just a rivatuner reading error which is caused by unlinked shaders and the core. You can confirm the accurate frequency by using the benchmark.
