Overclocking Information on AMD K6 processors

    Hi,
Does anyone has overclocked the AMD K6 processor. I have a system whic his equipped with this processor. I can overclock this on an experiment basis. I need the frequency voltage information on the basis of heat generated by the processor while overclocking. What is the safer side of the same. I just want to stay away of killing my processor in case if it is overheated or get fried up.

In effect, the format type Socket 7 ascribed to an L2 cache external to the fixed frequency of 67 MHz for all models, what with the first models were not very troublesome, but the increase in frequency is perceived less and less. But to follow the Pentium II in this area, the fine print goes from 0.35μ to 0.25μ from 233 MHz (but there are also 233 MHz 0.35μ). This allows the K6 to reach 300 MHz but the performance difference with the model at 267 MHz is so low that it fueling marketing, AMD.

It also due to its architecture, the K6 is like the Pentium MMX, not very efficient in calculating the floating point numbers, and facing the monster of calculating what the Pentium II, it is hard to follow. However, through the integration of MMX, he is quite capable of competing with it. But the output and the result can be get over the time. You have to play with multiple programs in-order to get benefited from the processor.

Regarding the overclocking, the multipliers are free, while still using the bus as high as possible for an L2 cache as fast as possible. The K6 233 MHz 0.35μ much heat, so look out the cooling treatment before any overclocking. To reset the K6 up to date, AMD has given a new format, Super Socket 7, which uses a 100 MHz FSB, which allows him to have a performance gain at high frequencies because its L2 cache passes him also at 100 MHz, and it also allows him to better progress in performance during the growing frequency.

The main and most interesting innovation brought by the K6-2 3D. It incorporates most of the MMX instructions for this time to expedite the processing of point numbers flattering, it is the instruction 3D-Now . This is real progress in front of the Intel MMX which would also accelerate the 3D gold in most 3D applications, the numbers are not integers.

Re: Overclocking Information on AMD K6 processors

This version of the K6 is boosted version only 400 MHz and 450 MHz and because of their L2 cache of 256 KB integrated, K6 has more transistors in operation and thus more heat. Its overclocking abilities are less good. Some series of K6-III are very overclockable and cons have no doubt benefited some optimizations. The range of models from 300 MHz to 550 MHz and it is amusing to note that to fall on standard frequencies, AMD has a little cheated on the FSB are not always 100 MHz for the models concerned. To overclock, you do the above, and attention not to exceed 2.4 V.
