The work is possible thanks to the ATI line by an application of flash to reflash the card but Be sure that mistake will not repeat. there to overclock a Radeon 8500 you will requires the following tools ResEdit to use native OS 9, The flasher the Radeon 8500, A calculator which converts decimal , Hexadecimal.

Under ResEdit, open RADEON 8500 Firmware UPDATE. Then open the resource RMDTs. What you have before you is the firmware for the Radeon 8500. Double click the resource to open. The Radeon Mac Edition is clocked at 250 MHz for the GPU and 275 MHz for the memory. In the calculator, convert 250,000 in hexadecimal. You get 03D090. now for the values you will need to search online .

The transition from 250/250 to 300/300, which is one of the biggest overclocking possible, allows a performance gain significant 20%. However this gain is due to the increased frequency of memory of the GPU. Indeed, if we go from 250/250 to 300/250 (GPU / RAM), the gain is only 3%. Instead, the transition from 250/250 to 250/300 increases the performance of 15%.

Re: Overclock and flash Radeon 8500

Most cards are able to reach 300 MHz, with a slight advantage for the Gigabyte R8500 which is as high as 305 MHz. Joytech cards which were to recall those whose GPU warmed over, come back of the pack, like R8500LE PowerColor. But given the frequency of the GPU has only limited impact on performance is most affected by the frequency of memory that are interesting.

The first sequence encodes the GPU and one for the RAM.Then, convert 25,000 in hexadecimal. You get 61A8 and (6B6C for 27500) To overclock, it suffices to intelligently modify these values:
    - Turn 03D090 and 043,238 in the values suitable
    - Turn it ALL 61A8 (4 total) in the new frequency of the GPU
    - Turn it ALL 6B6C (2 total) in the new frequency of my RAM.
Attention has to differentiate between the coded values of 5 and those in figure 6. any reversal could destroy the card. I will not give you value due to fear of being wrong.
