Overclocking is the process that which makes your computer run at a higher speed which is specified by the manufacturer.CPU is one of the area of the system that is mostly overclocked. overclocking can be done using the BIOS.
Enter the BIOS during system startup then select the Bios Features Setup, CPU Soft Menu and press Enter. Modify the CPU Host Bus Frequency, External Clock (PCI) or similar option shown with Page Down until you find the motherboard FSB speed you want (e.g 200 MHz for processors whose FSB normally works at 166 MHz). In the CPU Core section find the Multiple Bus Frequency or Multiplier factor and modify the value of the CPU Multiplier ( e.g 11x may be changed to 13x). Save the changes to the CMOS and exit. Change the parameters in steps. That means increase the FSB speed by a few MHz and check whether the system boots. If your computer boots then increase the speed further and check again and Repeat until you have the highest setting with which your computer will boot up. Now test your OS with some application say a game, to check whether the system crashes. If it crashes lower the FSB speed in steps till the point where the system is stable.
Many People don't know about overclocking .overclocking means computer component such as a processor and running at higher specification than given by the manufacturer.Every part produced by the companies having their limit. such as Intel and AMD are rated for a specific range or limit. Benefit of overclocking is additional computer performance without the increased cost. some cases, individuals are able to boost their system performance 25% or more. There are some drawbacks are there. You are voiding any warranty provided by the manufacturer, because it is not running within its rated specification. Overclocking push the parts their limits. That cause reduced functional lifespan or even worse, if improperly done, can be destroyed completely. So it's always recommended that do under expert's supervision.

Overclocking means running your CPU or other parts past the speed that it is rated at. Example ..1.2 GHz CPU at 1.4 GHz or else 200 MHz CPU at 233 MHz.CPU may be able to run at the higher speed quite reliably. There are several considerations when overclocking. Ensure that the component is supplied with adequate power to operate at the new speed.supplying the power with improper settings or applying excessive voltage can permanently damage a component.lifespan of a processor may be reduced by higher operating frequencies, increased voltages and heat, although processors rapidly become obsolete in performance.Increased clock speeds and/or voltages result in higher power consumption.Overclocking a PC component may void its warranty .There is a risk of fire if devices are not properly cooled.
