Memory timings and voltage?

hi
i have no idea about overclocking but i was looking in the bios under my memory page. and the voltage was set to 1.75v when the memory is stated at 2.75v.and i looking under the timing also and the memory is stated at 2-3-2-6 and the setting are set to auto. should i manually set the timings 2-3-2-6? and set the volts to 2.75? are should i just leave them on auto?Can these memory types co-exist with differing timing and voltage requirements?

Additional voltage is usually a necessary evil. It pushes items to do what we've told them to do. In this case, less worked for the better timings, and that's a huge plus IMO. The goal is to use as little as possible and still maintain stability. Voltage does nothing for performance, and as you've noted adds heat which can be a drawback. (however, 2.1v doesn't heat up sticks past "warm" from my experience).

I had OCZ ddr3 mem rated at 1.8 volts, and the 790i mobo comes standard with 1.5 Volt settings. The undervoltage protection prevents the system to start. Drove my nuts at the start. computer seems normal, but no signal to HD and graphics.The weird thing is that you cannot enter bios to alter the voltage settings, unless you use some cheap 1.5volt memory.

It is different and specific to each motherboard. Some MOBOs can detect the timings and change them automatically. Some require configuration. Check the web documentation on your motherboard for supported RAM modules. It should automatically detect the voltages and timings of any RAM listed as officially "supported".
