Hey, got my new computer today. Put it together and everything went well. started speedfan and see that the temperature is a little high. 40-45 degrees idle. Had heard that these processors can not tolerate heat very good. As soon as it reaches 55 degrees at full load, the clock rate down to 1100mhz. Is it normal or too hot?

The temperatures are not a problem, however, the speed should not go down in the manner you describe. But perhaps it is rather so that you looked at the speed of the processor is fully charged for a while and not while it loaded? In this case, it is probably normal when the speed is automatically lowered in the moments when the processor is not working very well, through a power-saving feature called Cool & Quiet.
CPU-Z is A good program to keep track of current processor speed. Core Temp Temperature-readers which uses the processor's internal sensors.

You are right, looked just after it had been charged.
Want to test core temp now
[EDIT] A bit of fun, core temp says that one core is at 6 degrees and the other is at 20 degrees.

It seems that the program does not properly handle your CPU. AMD has made small changes in the new models that allow similar programs must be updated, but the programmer has enough eye on it. Or perhaps if you are running Vista so it can happen that the program must be run in administrator mode, if UAC is enabled.
