    Stock temps for E8400

I checked the temperature of my E8400 and it came out to be nearly 55 degree C at the idle condition. This was quite surprising to me as i feel it is much higher than what it should be at idle condition. What do you guys think. All those E8400 owners, what are the stock settings temperatures on stock coolers?

How did you measure the temperatures of your E8400? That indeed seems to be bit higher than normal.

For my E8400, i was using a stock cooler that i removed recently. Then i applied arctic silver 5 instead. I observed that the temps were aroung 70 degree for load condition. It looks like E8400 has higher temps.

I measured the temperatures with coretemp 0.96.1. I doubt i might have not mounted HSF properly which is why such high temps.

I dont think E8400 has high temps. I measured my stock E8400 and it came out to be 45 degree C at full load while running OCCT and around 30 degree C at idle. The ambient temp was 24 degree C. However, i am already using Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme having a fan of 1500 rpm.

Untill i put oodles of volts through my E8400, my bios doesn't even pick the temperatures of it. Its only after that that bios starts reading temps. Also looking at the non existent cooler from intel, they dont seem to run hot with these chips. I cant tell how hot was my E8400 in real terms but i can guess which what i reckoned that the temps were about 25 degree C cooler than what was the case with my 6750. That even at high volts.

The improperly mounted HSF would make the CPU feel warm-to-hot when it burns like that. Have you tried touching the stock Intel HSF? I feel that will handle the CPU properly at its normal frequency.

To check it and to make it sure, you can check with a thermo gun or other such thermal sensor devices. If any reading through such devices goes beyond 70 degree C for the CPU, that too without any overclocking, then better RMA the CPU.
