    External HD NTFS Active Issue

So I have Western Digital 320gb Hard Drive one of the newer models.

I have been using it for about 2 months now and love it. Recently, I tried placing a 5gb file on there and it says I don't have enough space even though I have about 240GB free. So I tried researching and find that I may need to format it to NTFS. Did some searches on here and found out how I need to Righ Click on My Computer and got manage and all that good stuff. So I'm there, and someone posted there was an "Add" Button but I didn't see it. I right click and see Mark as Active. So I just said "what the hell" and clicked on it thinking I could unmark it later. I was wrong.

So now I have an "Active" hard drive that's not partitioned. I was trying to partition the rest into NTFS so I wouldn't lose my 60GB worth of data.

I was hoping you kind folks could point me in the right direction of how to
    1. What is Active and how do I turn it off
    and
    2. Help partitioning

    Thanks!

    George

    1. Run diskpart in a dos window and use "help" to see the
list of commands. The "inactive" command will unmark an active partition.

    2. Right click-mouse on My Computer->Manage->Disk Management. Select another drive - delete partition & create new one
