System restore can help you. It is the only way to restore your old settings instantly. Just type System restore in the Start search box. Choose a old date and apply the update. The process will take a bit time to complete but this will add more stability to your system. It is one of the fastest way to resolve such problem. You might get the update notification back again after running system restore. Skip the update.

When you update Catalyst you are also updating the video driver with that. When update give you any problem you can try using the setup file. You can download that from the official website. Just download it and remove the exiting one and install the setup. There are chances that at the time of installation the files are not properly copied. There can be certain damage files which gives you this problem.

Boot your system in safe mode. You can do that by hitting F8 constantly when you turn on your pc. In safe mode you can try troubleshooting the drivers. You can first try repairing it. That means running the setup once again. You can download a new setup file from the official site. Then boot back in normal mode. But if this does not work then you have to restore the old version back. You have to remove this new driver.

That is the reason you always maintain a driver backup. Many times we update blindly and land on such type of problem. This usually happens when you have a gpu. Go in Device Manager and right click on the gpu. Go in the driver section. There you can find option to rollback drivers. Click on that and check once again. If the driver version is available you can restore your pc original settings. You can also try system restore here.
