    error 0x80240031 downloading Windows 8.1

I am running Windows 8 on my computer and recently checked that there is a free update available for Windows 8.1. But whenever I am trying to download and install it then it fails over and over again. The error that I am getting is 0x80240031 which comes up everytime. I can check the download available in Store. Can anyone tell me how do I install this update without any error code? Thanks

There were many users who were able to solve this problem by resetting the Winsock Entries. So, try to reset the Winsock Entries and TCP/IP stack as well and check if it works. To do this press Windows and X key together and choose command prompt and open it in admin. After that type the below command and press Enter after each command:

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries) and press Enter

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack) and press Enter

Can you try to run sfc /scannow command which usually fixes the corrupt windows system files of your operating system automatically. To do this press Windows + Q key on your keyboard and then type command prompt in the search box. After that on the left side, right click on cmd and run as administrator. Now type sfc /scannow and then press Enter. Note that it could ask for Windows install DVD to fix and enable SFC to make some repairs.

If the above solution didnt work for you then you can try this another method. First press Windows and Q key on your keyboard to open Search box. After that click on Settings and then type Advanced Startup options and press Enter key. Now click Restart Now under Advanced Startup and then click Troubleshoot. After that click on the Advanced options and then on Automatic Repair. In some cases you will asked for Windows DVD while sometime it will not ask.
