Windows Blue will be called Windows 8.1 and will be free

Windows Blue will be called Windows 8.1 and it will be much of a free update for Windows 8 and Windows RT.

The Microsoft Windows blog relayed two brief announcements held at a conference of financial organization JP Morgan this morning in the United States.

Tami Reller, Chief Financial Officer of Microsoft, has confirmed that the Windows Blue code name will be called Windows 8.1, as it was revealed in the latest drafts leak.

The ruling also announced that Windows 8.1 would be free for owners of Windows 8 and Windows RT, for whatever edition. I must say that Windows 8.1 would be an update correcting the mistakes of the latest operating system from Microsoft, related to a service pack. Since it does not inaugurate a new branch, it should retain the brand and the Windows 8 logo.

The users can try Windows 8.1 at the end of June, with the publication of a Public Preview likely during the Build conference. At last, the final version is expected in August.

Re: Windows Blue will be called Windows 8.1 and will be free

Last Sunday, a user posted on a forum dedicated to Windows a screenshot showing "Windows 8.1". It was the screen about Windows which was disclosed later in the draft which had escaped Microsoft a few days ago, numbered 9375 and not 9364. So, it seems that microsoft is going to present the next version of Windows as a relatively modest upgrade for the existing version. Check the below image for instance:

Windows 8.1, however, will provide more frequent corrections and changes. Some of these are as Desktop customization and apps. On the other hand, it appears that Explorer 11 is in stage and there will be new Snap options to use more than one app at a time at full screen or split screen. Also noted was the improvement in the synchronization between computers, new default apps and other system options, etc. Windows Blue, now Windows 8.1, will be extended to multiple platforms, such as Windows Server, the mobile operating system Windows Phone 8 and applications like Sky Drive and Outlook.com.
