Yes there is an option for installing windows 7 without erasing or formatting hard disk and that's Upgrade. There are two options for installing windows 7, one is Upgrade and the other is Custom.
With custom your current version of Windows will get replaced with Windows 7 and your files, settings, and programs wont be saved.
On the other hand with Upgrade your your current version of Windows will get replaced with Windows 7 and your files, settings, and programs wont get affected. You just have to select the drive in which you might be willing to install it. For eg if you are having 2 drives naming C and D, so if your current windows is installed in C and you have all your data in D than you can point the installation to C.
Hope that's the answer you were looking for.
i want to install windows 7 in d drive where all files are present in D Drive
i already have windows xp os in C Drive.
so i want to install windows 7 in D Drive without erasing or formatting the D Drive.
In that case you can simply backup your D Drive in to an external drive or on some other system and select your D Drive while installing windows 7. Once installed you can create a new drive and transfer your back up data in there.
