Can´t see computers on My network places

    Hi mates,

Last 2 weeks I couldn´t see computers on my network places. Here is the scenario:

There is a main site with 2 VLANs:
    172.16.1.0 /24 for servers (VLAN 2)
    192.168.1.0 /24 for PCs (VLAN 3)

    Branches:
    Site 1: 172.16.2.0 /24
    Site 2: 172.16.3.0 /24
    and so on.....

We have 1 PDC with address 172.16.1.5. My Network Places on this server shows servers on VLAN 2 at main site and PCs on branches, it doesn´t show PCs at VLAN 3 for main site.

On the other hand, if I look My network places on each branch, I only see servers at main site and PC for other branches, I can´t see PCs on VLAN 3.

And last, if I check my network places on every PC located in VLAN 3 at main site, I can see the whole network PCs (servers, branches).

What could be the problem ?
There are 2 BDC, one located at main site and another is located at Site 2. Both have the same problem as the PDC.

I´ve already checked the Computer Browser service, also the netBIOS over TCP /IP, both parameters are enabled.

First of all turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is an issue, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be uninstalled to stop affecting your networking. For that you need to hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt. In the command prompt window that opens, you need to type the following commands:

PING each remote computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. Open a command prompt as described above and type.

    Code:
    PING <ip address>
    or
    PING <computer name>
    Where:
    <ip address> - is the x.x.x.x IP address
    <computer name> - the computer name

A failure to PING is almost always a firewall configuration issue. Any failure to PING needs to be corrected before you go any farther.

After doing this you need to check all this things which are mentioned below.

    • Check your Services are Started on all PCs:
    • Computer Browser
    • DHCP Client
    • DNS Client
    • Network Connections
    • Network Location Awareness
    • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    • Server
    • TCP/IP Netbios helper
    • Workstation

You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.
