Need help with my Vista D: Drive.

I realized lately that there’s hardly any space left in my son’s laptop. I was wondering why when I noticed that the System Restore was ‘On’ for D: Drive and he said, it’s always been on. And whenever he does a system restore, he does it for both.

Should we be doing it only for C: drive or for both? If I clear all restore points will this affect the Recovery Partition that was installed on D: /?

One thing that you need to understand is that System Restore affects Windows System files, programs and registry settings. It has no effect on your personal files or folders. It can also make changes to scripts, batch files, and other types of executable files on your computer. I don’t really think, including D: Drive in restore point will make any difference.

Definitely! Follow the following steps for that.
    1. Open Control Panel (Classic View)
    2. Click on the System icon.
    3. Click on the Advanced system settings link. (Upper left corner)
    4. If prompted by UAC, then click on Continue.
    5. Uncheck any Available Disk letter that you no longer want restore points created for.
    6. You will get a pop up window.
    7. Click on the Turn System Restore Off button

In order to change the amount of space allotted to System Restore, follow these steps:
    1. Open an elevated Command Prompt
    2. In case asked by UAC, click on Continue
    3. In the elevated command prompt, type vssadmin list shadowstorage and press Enter.

If you want to do it with the C: Drive, use the following code and press enter
    “vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage /For=C: /On=C: /Maxsize=3GB”
Here, 3gb can be changed to any size you wish. Close the elevated Command Prompt. Hope, all your queries are answered.
