Blue Screen during Windows 8 Consumer Preview x86 installation and error code 0xc0000260

I am using the Toshiba Tecra M2-S730 laptop. It is a very old model with 1GB ram but there is no problem running Windows 7 and Windows 8 Developers Preview. But when I try to run the Windows 8 Consumer Preview x86 installations using the DVD, the laptop shows me a blue screen and prompts me that pc needs to be repaired along with an error code 0xc0000260. I have checked the DVD and it is burned fine. I know about this error code but why bluescreen?

Before installing make sure that processor supports PAE, then only you can install Windows 8 Consumer Preview. By the use of Upgrade Assistant you have to make sure that your system is capable of supporting NX/PAE.

Unfortunately, I lack a good idea. But there are several solutions:
    • The error message indicates defective RAM usually. . If this is not the case, the RAM might be set incorrectly in the BIOS. The bios reset to default times could help there.
    • Another possibility is that the power supply is defective and does not allow for stable power supply to the motherboard.
    • A few times I've also read that Daemon tools that are installed on a machine that can provoke such errors.

It seems to me that you have only one partition in Windows 7. So if you are going to install Windows 7, you have to make some more room for that. Otherwise you need to create another partition in which you can easily install the Windows 8. In order to create a new partition, you can make use of the necessary tools directly in windows 7. To do this first of all go to the Computer Management<>Disk Management. There you will see the C: partition. Now right click on it and select zoom selected volume.

The biggest mistake you have committed, as you have the Windows 8 Beta installed on your computer or in use. MS says explicitly that this is a beta and thus a test version. If, then install either virtual or on a secondary computer. Or on a second hard drive that you temporarily plugged into the computer.

Did you try the 32 or 64 bit install?

    Does your computer supports VT-X?

Do you have- enabled> CPU PAE / NX?

The error code indicates that STATUS_INVALID_HW_PROFILE ((NTSTATUS) 0xc0000260) and the reason is either your computer is too old or VBox the PAE / NX CPU with no history or VT-X.

Whenever you are trying to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview using the DVD, it fails and shows bluescreen along with an error code 0xc0000260. The error is because it is not possible for your system or CPU to run the Windows 8 customer preview due to lack of Physical Address Extension (PAE) support. This issue is only with Pentium CPUs with the 400 MHz which does not support PAE. PAE allows 32 bit CPUs to access physical address space from RAM . You should always check the compatibility list in this situation.
