What is the new icon in top right side of the menu bar of OS X Mountain Lion?

I installed the beta version of OS X Mountain Lion. I wanted to ask a particular thing over here. what is the new icon in menu bar located at the top right? I noticed that the Spotlight is moved to left side.

The icon which you have mentioned over here is Notification center. I am expecting that it will be more functional when final version of the operating system is released. It will give you notification about the mail, messengers and reminders. In case other apps are running on the system then the notification will appear as a banner and it will get disappear immediately so that it does not interrupt whatever you are doing. When you will click on the notification you will get the relevant app.
