It's one of random failures that occur from time to time. I found them too. Be sure to close all open applications. Press Ctrl + Alt + Backspace to restart the X server and back to the login display. If you still receive error note when you log in, reboot your computer.

I am using Linux Mint 9 .you need to go to synaptic manager and write its menu. I re-install , although nothing .I also imagine you have to run a python file, Nevertheless i don’t know how to run python files: (i am just starting with linux)
I had the same problem with some other errors when installing Mint 9 and restarted. After restarting three times, finally opened without errors. Hope this helps.
Try this in terminal
Code:sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop (or sudo killall gdm), Alt+F2 log in and type: sudo apt-get remove --purge gnome-applets gnome-applets-data and install this again, or then remove files in /tmp like: all files with the word "gconf" and "orbit-your username" or aptitude search applet, and reinstall every applet or sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop or something else
I faced the identical trouble only an hour ago. Three or four restarts and nothing happen. Then I entirely eliminate and reinstall Mint Menu through Synaptic. Subsequent to that, I restarted the laptop and Mint Menu was back.
