unable to install ms-sys from Ubuntu 8.0.4 live CD

Hi, I was trying to update my Windows MBR from the Ubuntu 8.0.4 live CD but when I was trying it was giving problem during installation. I am not sure what could be the problem but it is quite needed that I know.

Any suggestion for resolving this would be surely appreciated.

I think from the disk you are trying to get is not responding. But still you should try for sure, but before that you can have option to make sure whether the CD you are using is working perfectly. Otherwise according to me the best option would be use another disk if you have any, or you can simply download "ms-sys" package from its official website and then try to install it again in the machine.

You could download "ms-sys" from internet, but luckily you can install a Windows equivalent MBR merely doing the following from the Live CD:

sudo lilo -M /dev/sda mbr

I am agree with the above user as I have done this and it works perfectly for me but let me tell you with a 10.04 i386 live CD only, thus if you are using another one so please change that first and then try to install it from the disk I have mentioned. And while doing this you can make use of the below mentioned code.

If you are about to use 11.04 CD then let me tell you as you’ll be able to install it very easily because you’ll not have any such problem with “Lilo configuration“, rather you just have to follow the command mentioned by the above user.
