Backtrack 5 - USB Persistent Changes not working

I tried both the "Backtrack installation of USB persistent" and "alternative installation method for Windows users" methods. The Linux Live USB creator method creates a working version of Backtrack 5, but not permanent changes. The Linux boot method for the "Minimal BASH" shell with the grub> prompt. I tried this on more than a few diverse types of USB memory devices with the identical results. Has anyone succeeded in getting this to work? Any advice would be great!

Re: Backtrack 5 - USB Persistent Changes not working

I have made topic on this earlier, and I can see that both backtrack 5 32-bit GNOME and KDE work for me. I have not tested the 64-bit versions so far. Md5sum check your download to start, and try again. Also make sure your computer meets the requirements for running Ubuntu 10.10 minimum.
Also make sure you are using 8 GB or larger USB memory. Any further assistance you need than you can reply me here.

Re: Backtrack 5 - USB Persistent Changes not working

Format unit completely primary fat32. Installed everything according to the wiki guide, grub installed and returned no error. However, there is no file, as in the menu.lst * / boot / grub (/ mnt/sdc1/boot/grub in my case). Obviously it does not start without him, so he tried to manually create (copy paste from wiki so the file should be similar), but has the same error as OutPut - bash minimum and cannot boot. I too try to fit it throughout unetbootin, but without success - to be stuck in an empty command line with a "_" blinking. I’m running from a USB Flash Drive 8GB BT5 gnome 32 (not persistent). Tried both methods as 3 + times each. Not sure what else I can do: / the hard drive is new and has almost no bad sectors or etc.
Here is the output of ls /mnt/sdc1/boot/grub (WITHOUT the manually created menu.lst):

Re: Backtrack 5 - USB Persistent Changes not working

Same for me. Finish with "grub>" to reboot. Test CD and an usb memory did not work. Backtrack 4 rc2 took place within seconds. I do not know where I went wrong. No menu only. The only way to start is something like UNetbootin, but I cannot persistent. We hope you have a solution soon. I did it once again on my 8GB SCHD with unetbootin (latest version), chosen as Backtrack chain (4f), and gave about 5 GB of space preserved, took a new downloaded image (32 bits gnome) and now works .Same steps as before, but now they're saving everything I do. I use it for learning, and hope will soon be a solution to this problem grub.

Re: Backtrack 5 - USB Persistent Changes not working

With unetbootin I change my syslinux.cfg.after changing it looks like.

    Code:
    label ubnentry7
menu label ^Start Persistent ESSAI TRY 1
    kernel /casper/vmlinuz
append initrd=/casper/initrds.gz file=/cdrom/preseed/custom.seed boot=casper persistent rw xforcevesa quiet splash --

    label ubnentry8
menu label ^Start Persistent ESSAI TRY2
    kernel /casper/vmlinuz
    append initrd=/casper/initrds.gz file=/cdrom/preseed/custom.seed boot=casper persistent rw text splash vga=791--

Re: Backtrack 5 - USB Persistent Changes not working

similar difficulty here. It appears that this tutorial persistent usb- is not in fact for Backtrack 5. It references grub, when Backtrack 5 is in fact using isolinux. There is no boot/grub directory on my backtrack5 gnome 32bit image file (ISO). Possibly there was a error and a newer tutorial was not linked when backtrack 5 came out. Someone who can write steps by steps for usb persistent. I really need some help from backtrack 5 support people.

Re: Backtrack 5 - USB Persistent Changes not working

I can verify that Linux Live USB Backtrack 4 R2 uses the configuration and creates an image that works very well, but no persistence. Backtrack 5 -GNOME I-64. Md5 is correct. Unetbootin (you have to get the latest version) works with persistence, but I had some other problems with it (it hangs when I try to turn off). I'll wait until Linux Live is compatible with Backtrack 5 and I like the added characteristic that can be started from the windows. For now I'm just using without persistence.
