    Gentoo: ‘dvb’ no /dev/dvb

Well I have installed Gentoo on the computer of mine. Recently I have upgrade to the skystar 2 to skystar s2. However after doing the same I have lost /dev/dvb from the computer of mine. I am posting following info which would be useful to find out the root cause of the problem.
    ybox ~ # dmesg | grep DVB
[ 4.232615] DVB: registering new adapter (FlexCop Digital TV device)
    mybox ~ # lsmod

Personally I am not having answer to resolve the problem of yours. however I am know something which would be useful to understand the situation appropriately. Well udev is responsible for the building of the /dev/dvb nodes on the computer of yours. So I am not sure but there could be an issue with udev itself. Also you have to look into the MKDEV or MAKEDEV which could be the exact same as name of the script.

    Re: Gentoo: ‘dvb’ no /dev/dvb

I let you know that the dev/dvb device would appear if the kernel of the system would have correct drivers for the chipset or frontend is having correct version of the firmware is installed. In case the /dev/dvb device is did not seem to appear then I am sure that there is something which is missing on the computer of yours. it could be possible that the kernel is not configured or the device might needed the updated version of the firmware.

    Re: Gentoo: ‘dvb’ no /dev/dvb

I am wondering that the old card is working for the mpeg 2. But I am unable to figure out what there should be to deal with /dev/dvb. If udev is able to view the thing then it would be dev. The old card of mine is not having frontend in dev so according to me there would be /dev/dvb/device0. Well right now I am not in the condition to purchase a new card. however I am thinking that I should update the kernel on the system and see whether it is working or not.

Looking at the situation which you have mentioned over here I am suggesting following thing which you can use to fix the matter of yours.
    • You have to select the device which you wanted to compile and install.
    • Now you have to run following command on the terminal.
    • Code:
      # make menuconfig
    • Finally you have to install firmware binary. You have to put the same into firmware directory.
    • /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware or /lib/firmware file location.

I have managed to thing working frontend cx24120 with the 2.6.37 kernel. I have updated the computer of mine with 2.6.38-r5 and done a kernel setup. Well after doing the kernel upgrade and I have found that the problem which I have mentioned over here. so I am suggesting that you should try with the kernel upgrade and see whether the thing is working or not. Also if you are having any query then feel free to ask the same.
