Best Linux OS for Video Streaming and running Wine

    Linux Distro for Video Streaming.

The below are the list of Linux Distributions that can be best for video streaming and for media center also. For video stuff you need all codec support and a good internet bandwidth. For that I will recommend you to go with Media Center systems only. They comes with all kinds of audio and video supports and there is no need to provide any additional support.

Elisa : On multimedia applications for Linux company specializing Fluendo has a first preliminary version of its Linux Media Center Elisa published. No question - Elisa is a real eye-catcher: the home screen with its three-dimensional menus arranged in a circle and gently shimmering reflections on black background looks classy. Send the ubiquitous transparency effects. So it is possible to browse the media lists, while at the same time movies and slide shows continue gently dimmed in the background. Elisa uses for the 3D acceleration of modern graphics cards to use OpenGL is 1.3.

XBMC : Xbox Media Center (XBMC) is a multi-functional media player for the Xbox. The application allows multimedia files such as video, images and audio files from DVD, hard drive, server or play on the Internet. To this end, the application can either access SMB shares, streaming server, or FTP. A corresponding module allows the direct application of agency media-playing YouTube. Furthermore, the program can also Xbox games and emulators and programs to start and manage. The surface of XBMC is the core of the application separately and can be adapted to individual wishes by means of skins. In addition, the application via an interface that allows you to embed Python scripts that extend the XBMC new features.

Boxee : Boxee brings together in one program the benefits of a traditional media center with access to sources of streaming content over the Internet. With Boxee can enjoy your photos, videos and songs, comfortably and with access to subtitles or lyrics using Internet services. In addition, you'll be able to share content with friends and other users of Boxee. But where Boxee is most striking in the long list of websites of televisions, radios, thematic or sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Last.fm, YouTube and Flickr provide you images, music and videos in torrents. Boxee is very intuitive and easy to use. You can use it with mouse, keyboard or remote control, and is the ideal replacement for your DVD player.

Linuxmce : LinuxMCE (Linux Media Center Edition): acts on Kubuntu-based home entertainment system that allows both the operation of a HTPC (Home Theater PC) as well as the central control unit for the digital home management, such as to control phones, lamps and blinds; contains many open-source applications such as Asterisk, Xine, MythTV, Firefox, VideoLAN or Pluto.

If you chose any of the above recommendations then you get not only the chance to stream videos but also get all necessary updates for running different type of videos and audios. Basically you can try Ubuntu with all regular updates to run video. But if you are having a plan of streaming video from an lan network then it is needed to understand that you need to full fledged working Distro that can give you entire pack of support.

    Linux Distro for Wine

There are ample of Linux Distro that you can try. Under this category it is possible to use almost any kind of Distribution that supports Wine. For that I will advice to use the most latest one only. Linux is an awesome operating system which gives you almost any type tool free and similar. Under such I will recommend you to use any Distro which is based on Debian.

Debian : This are one of the top Linux Distro. The problem with these distributions is that there is no 100% guarantee for working of Windows applications. But this is the widely used one. There are Debian based Linux Distros like Ubuntu, etc which are much easier to use. While supporting the above distributions known as RPM packages that will allow to install software with a double. Often you have to download the source code of the desired software to run the same. For this to run some advance tools you need to have some programming knowledge.

    Gentoo

Gentoo is really meant for advance usser only. In this from installation to final setup everything is manual. This has the advantage that you can customize it as you want.

You can thus increase performance dramatically. As you make all settings must be himself, you can avoid running unnecessary services. You can manipulate the modules into the kernel or software and use them as per your need. Gentoo is also an one of the fastest distros.

A good distribution form the installation and operation in Debian GNU / Linux, does not require much computer and is stable, others defend Slackware, SuSE and Ubuntu are very popular. A good graphical environment, it depends on taste, if you want fast, Fluxbox or Xfce , or too showy with SuperKaramba KDE or GNOME on average. It normally depends on your choice and your needs what you need.

If you are a typical desktop user and you only chat, browse, send mails, listen to music, etc then you can go for Linspire. This includes a lot of applications for the desktop and everything you need to walk out out-of-the-box. Ubuntu is on track, but version 6 is still too complicated hardware and proprietary components plugins. Mandriva is not what it was. SuSE offers more than you need and all the others are for geeks: They are not designed entirely for the user simple desktop, and not as cool as Linspire.
